It’s that time of year again! AnimeNEXT, my hometown con, is returning to the Garden State Exhibit Center from June 6-8 and has expanded into nearby territories to create more room for more panels and other events! Among this year’s guests of honor, representing Studio Trigger, are none other than Hiromi Wakabayashi and Shigeto Koyama!!! (Oh man, did Evan pick the wrong year to move out of NJ.) But that’s not the only reason I’m excited/nervous.
I’ll be presenting, for the very first time, the very first panel I’ve ever constructed myself. The panel, Poetry in Anime: The Power of Words in a Visual Medium, will be going on from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Saturday in DT Panel 2 Hillsborough … right opposite Trigger’s panel on Kill La Kill (from which I coincidentally use a clip). Honestly, ignore me and go see the Japanese guests! It’s amazing that they’re there, and I’ll be around to present at other cons with a much more refined panel.
Friends, accomplicies, and inspirations alike will also be attending and presenting. Reverse Thieves Alain and Kate, manga trivia master Xan, anime anthropologist Charles Dunbar, AWO’s Gerald Rathkolb and Daryl Surat, translator extraordinaire Kit, and so many others are offering a plethora of fantastic panels. This will be a fan-tastic con, and I can’t wait to start panel hopping. Speaking of which, the tentative schedules for David and myself follow the break. Hope to see you there!
