BioWare Co-Founders Leaving the Company
Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck leaving to pursue career and personal ambitions
Regardless of your current feelings on BioWare, there’s no doubt that they’ve put out some of the most fun and memorable video games of the last fifteen (or so) years. Specializing in role-playing games that stress actual role-playing, BioWare games give the style of tabletop RPGs in video game form.
Two key men behind BioWare’s greats, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck, are leaving the company they helped found together. In statements on the BioWare website, Muzyka states that he’s moving on to a different field, looking for new challenges, saying he’s “largely personally achieved what [he] wanted in video games.” Muzyka will be focusing on “investing and mentoring new entrepreneurs, and more specifically, the field of social/impact investing.”
Zeschuck is using his newfound free time for family and hobbies. Stating that he no longer has the passion he once did for creating games, he will be “spending significant time with family and friends, as well as pursuing some personal passion-driven projects related to craft beer.” No word on whether it will be Commander Shepard’s favorite microbrew on the Citadel.
While I’m sad to see these two leave and I’m concerned about where BioWare will go without them, it’s great that they have things all worked out. Even with my brief Mass Effect obsession, my favorite BioWare titles have to be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Baldur’s Gate games–what about you? What are some of your favorite BioWare memories, and what direction do you think the company will take without Muzyka and Zeschuck at the helm?
